“Billy At Random Reviewers Int.                  Artist : G.R.Flint 6/19/01 Song Title : Shallow Eyes Percussion premiers the infancy bars of "Shallow Eyes" tailgating close behind are bass, twelve-string acoustic and lead guitar laying down the bed rhythms. This track pleasantly grooves along displaying plenty of appeal for a huge audience. Radio jocks will accept this song after previewing the initial few bars because the composer emitted a lengthy introduction and has opened with good tempo. The musical structure contains no blemishes; throughout "Shallow Eyes" there is no indication of an individual instrument over-powering other instruments. It's obvious this man has studied music structure. The lead guitar secures the song by splattering chords and answering the vocal lines. The lead break is up front when being played; listeners are able to differentiate it apart from the rest of Flint's creation. I'll always remember a fellow musician instructing me that if you have a drum fill or lead break be up front, let the audience know you’re the musician displaying his skills. One of my pet-likes is to allow the composition to breathe an action practiced by many a professional musician. There is a section that does allow "Shallow Eyes" to breath but with a difference! Amalgamating an a cappella style section with my favourite breathing action nearing the end of the piece. At the final stages of "Shallow Eyes" there is a strategically placed double-ended finale. Tricking the listener and myself into believing the song has ended. But no my friends it hasn't ended! It finishes with bass and percussion repeating then fading in the last few bars. Saving the best to last. The strength of the lead vocalist is awesome he has power to spare. I guess he would have a range of four octaves? His voice just blows me away. Good pronunciation, breathing in the correct sections and holding the final notes brilliantly. I detect that he has either doubled his vocal track or has made good use of a harmoniser. Anyway whatever, who cares, the outstanding vocals will certainly sell this song. Probably if a scout hears this track there will be a contract written up immediately for more work. I said previously that there were no blemishes in the musical structure but I'm afraid I've nit-picked a little and discovered a blemish in the mix of vocals compared to the volume of the instruments. Instrument volume tends to make the lead vocal difficult to hear in some sections. Then again this can easily be rectified in the studio. I congratulate G.R.Flint for producing a work of art. "Shallow Eyes" will be a mover in the music charts. If not the adjudicators are deaf ! I beg you to download "Shallow Eyes" and play the song more than once! You won't be sorry.
